Solo
A cultura adapta-se a vários tipos de solo, no entanto prefere solos bem drenados, ligeiros e férteis. O pH deve situar-se entre 6.5 e 7.0.
Clima
A temperatura óptima para o seu crescimento encontra-se entre os 4 e 28°C, preferindo locais com boa exposição solar, devendo evitar-se locais muito húmidos.
Fertilização
Devido a ser uma cultura perene, deve ter-se em conta que a fertilização de fundo também tendo em visto o médio/longo prazo. A aplicação de composto é assim essencial, podendo, se for necessário a adição de algum fertilizante mineral natural rico em fósforo e/ou potássio.
Sementeira
Feita em tabuleiro com posterior transplante quando a planta tiver 4 pares de folhas definitivas. A cultura pode ser realizada em linhas, mantendo entre 25 a 30 cm entre plantas e 60 a 80 cm entre linhas.
Rega
Deve ser feita de forma a manter o solo húmido sem encharcamentos, pois quer o excesso quer o défice de água são prejudiciais. O sistema de rega gota-a-gota é interessante para a cultura.
